St Jean to Pamplona

Internet not reliable anywhere.
Sunday morning attended a basque mass and then got sorted for day one.
set off at 7am to walk Napoleans way over the pass of Roland and it was uphill immediately.  Took us 3 hours to get to first coffee break, Orisson.
Walking through Country side very similar to NZ in many ways except the sheep, horses and cattle wore big bells. we climbed to 1450 meters,  surprisingly we both felt okay. approximately 90 minutes downhill to Roncevelle,  the first beer hardly touched the sides. We had walked 10 hours.  We stayed in the overflow hostel with 118 other pilgrimages, the newest hostel sleeps 350 and it was full. 29kms on the first day.
Next day walked 26 km to Zibru, so many pilgrimage  on the walk we had no choice but to sleep on a concrete floor, consequently never had a good sleep.
Yesterday we walked 21 km to Arre- Trinidad De Arre.  we are staying 2 nights so as to look at Pamplona.  we have both been affected by the heat, low 30's but drinking plenty of water. Good Pilgrim dinner last night,  salad,  cod and potatoes,  cheese cake with bottles of vino tinto.   We have been walking with an American couple,  Mark and Debby.
